Sports & Scripture

  • All 7th-12th graders welcome!
  • Every Wednesday, 4:00 - 6:00pm (Except June 23 - last event is August 4)
  • Meet on the field for sports, pizza, talk, and discussion follows
  • Entire event is outdoors and will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather
Ultimate Archery - July 10: 3-6pm
Ever wanted to unleash your inner Legolas or Robin Hood?  Join other teens at Ultimate Archery in Sterling, VA for a fun afternoon of "archery dodgeball".  The game involves using real bows to shoot safe, padded arrows at opponents.  Face protection is provided.  The event includes 15 minutes of instruction and practice and an hour of competition.  We'll finish with a pizza party.
Diocesan Kings Dominion Day - July 23
Join youth and families from all over the diocese for a day at the park!  We will attend 9am Mass together and then carpool to the park.
  • $36/person
  • Youth entering 7th grade and older are invited.
  • Drivers and Chaperones are needed
  • We will leave the park at dinner time and stop for dinner on the way home.  Teens are responsible for their own lunch and snacks while at the park.  They may bring a lunch to each before they enter, the park does not allow outside food or drink except for water.
  • Email Michael to sign up
  • Download the permission form

Adults: be a partner in youth ministry
At St. John, our goal is to offer a wide variety of youth activities and programs to inspire and equip every young person in the parish to live in a meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ.  The only way this is possible will be if many adults step forward to serve the youth.

You can help by: committing to pray for the youth and adult volunteer leaders, supporting the practical needs of our youth ministries (like snacks and meals), or helping to lead a youth ministry activity (such as Sunday nights, Sports nights, Movie nights, “Going deeper groups”, activities for younger kids, or your ideas)

CYO Sports

St. John participates in the Arlington Diocese' CYO program.  Youth who attend St. John Academy or are enrolled in religious education may play on one of our boys' or girls' teams.  Basketball is offered from November - March, and Girls' Volleyball takes place in the spring semester.  Contact Michael for more information: [email protected]
