The feast of Our Lady of the Rosary was instituted to honor Mary Help of Christians for the defeat of the Turks at Lepanto on October 7, 1571. Pope St. Pius V implored all of Christendom to pray the Rosary for victory. Even Don Juan of Austria entrusted a rosary to each of the Christian combatants of the Holy League before going into battle.

Our Lady of the Rosary

Pour forth, we beseech you, O Lord, your grace into our hearts, that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ you Son was made known by the message of an Angel, may, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, by his Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of his Resurrection. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.Amen.
