Bishop Burbidge will be coming here to St. John the Beloved on the evening of Monday, February 27 to confer the Sacrament of Confirmation on our brothers and sisters.
Just as the Apostles who, having just witnessed Our Lord’s Ascension, “returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple blessing God” (Luke 24, 52-53) and then “devoted themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren” (Acts 1,14), obediently observing Our Lord’s command to “stay in the city, until you are clothed with power from on high” (Luke 24,48), we shall join in prayer to accompany our fellow Christians as they approach the Holy Sacrament of Confirmation and beg the Lord to make equally joyful, prayerful, and obedient so that the Holy Spirit will find them receptive to the Sanctifying Grace that will operate in them and through them for the salvation of souls.
The nine days of prayer in between Ascension and Pentecost, the original novena, can be reflected in our own way. I urge you to mark your calendars from Saturday, February 18 through Sunday, February 26 to pray every day for everyone who is about to be confirmed and for every soul that will receive the touch of the Holy Spirit through them. We will have a novena prayer in the vestibule for you to take home.
God bless our brother and sisters who are preparing for their Pentecost. Come, Holy Spirit!
