Policy for the Implementation of Traditionis Custodes
in the Diocese of Arlington

On 16 July of last year Pope Francis issued an Apostolic Letter entitledTraditionis Custodes concerning the celebration of Holy Mass in the more ancient Roman Rite.

On 29 July of this year Bishop Burbidge published his implementation of the Apostolic Letter Traditionis Custodes for the Diocese of Arlington. Five parishes have been granted permission by the bishop to continue to offer the Traditional Mass at locations other than their parish churches.

St. John the Baptist in Front Royal will be offering the TLM at Chelsea Academy.
Sacred Heart in Winchester will be offering the old Mass in Sacred Heart Academy.
Holy Trinity in Gainesville will be offering the Usus Antiquior at Renaissance Montessori School.
St. Patrick in Fredericksburg will be offering the Extraordinary Form in their parish hall.
St. John the Apostle in Leesburg already was using their historic church, which they will continue to do.

The parishes in the Diocese of Arlington have been granted permission by the Holy See to offer the Holy Mass with the 1962 Missale Romanum:

St. Anthony Mission in St. George,
St. Rita Church in Alexandria, and
St. John the Beloved.

This permission will be reviewed in two years. Among the additional expectations is the requirement of the Dicastery for Divine Worship that “the parish may not publish the times of the Mass in the usus antiquior in the bulletin or on the parish website or social media sites.” As of September 8 of this year, we will no longer publish any Mass times in the bulletin or on the parish website or social media sites. We shall have a large display in the entrance to St. John the Beloved showing our liturgical schedule. Moreover we will encourage the faithful to reach us by telephone or by email to find out who is offering what Mass on which day.

St. John Vianney, pray for us!
