LECTORS

Over 40 parishioners serve St. John Parish as Lectors. For each Sunday Mass, two lectors are assigned. This allows us to have a different voice for the Old Testament and the New Testament, which helps to emphasize the distinction between the readings. Typically, a lector reads about once a month. On weekdays, a lector is assigned to a specific weekday, for either the 6:30 a.m. Mass or the 9:00 a.m. Mass. As lectors, we take to heart the awesome privilege of being chosen to read Godıs messages to His people, as written in the Bible. We strive to hone our skills and prepare carefully so we can reverently proclaim the word of God in all its beauty and splendor. Training sessions are conducted for both new and current lectors. Lectors who are new to our parish are introduced to the specific procedures we use at St. John. All lectors also attend periodic training sessions focused on improvement techniques. We are fortunate to have a lector trained in speech and drama, who conducts these training sessions. If you have a strong, clear voice and you feel that God is calling you to be a lector, please contact Ms. Freddie Wall, the lector coordinator at 703-356-5706.
