All Saints Day and All Souls Day have come and gone. For remainder of the month of November the Church especially remembers the faithful departed. What have we learned?

If heaven were easy to attain, so much of what we do is a waste of time and energy, what did Our Lord say?

And some one said to him, “Lord, will those who are saved be few?” And he said to them, “Strive to enter by the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.”

Luke 13,23

What did Our Lady of Fatima tell the children?

Lucia asked: “Will I go to Heaven?”

- “Yes, you will go.”

- “and Jacinta?”

- “She will go too”

- “and Francisco?”

- “He will also go, but he has to pray many rosaries first.”

Then I remembered two of my sister’s friends who died recently.”

- “Is Maria de las Nieves in Heaven?”

- “Yes she is.”

- “and Amelia, who is between 18 - 20 years old?”

- “She will be in purgatory until the end of the world.”

And then Our Lady said:

“Do you want to offer yourselves to God and accept all the sufferings that He desires to send you in reparation for the sins by which He is offended and to implore for the conversion of sinners?”

- “Yes, we want to.”

- “You will have to suffer much, but God’s grace will strengthen you.”

If we are still prone to saying “When I get to heaven, God is going to have to explain…” Blasphemy! Do not think for a second that we will waltz into heaven with the attitude that God has some explaining to do. Look forward to all mysteries being revealed in heaven. Look forward also to having that smug irreverence purified away in purgatory.

Our Lady of Victory, pray for us!
St. Joseph, pray for us!
All you angels and saints, pray for us!
