Happy Anniversaries!

Monday, July 31st marks the 8th anniversary of the priestly ordination of Father Joseph J. Dewaele CICM. Father Joseph is with us every Sunday morning for the 10:30 a.m. Mass. He was born March 19, 1924, in Waregem, Belgium. After his ordination in 1949 his first priestly assignment was in Congo. Later he returned to Brussels and then came to the US in 1967. After ministry in Philadelphia, PA; Oxnard, CA; West Haven, CT and Hamden, CT, he lives in retirement at the Missionhurst residence in Arlington, Virginia.

On Saturday August 1 in the year 1942 a young lady named Earlene let the dapper Lucas Gallegos place a wedding ring on her finger. The wedding took place in secret. This Tuesday the whole world is invited to celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary! They who would go on to own and operate Lee Bakery for over forty-two years celebrated their wedding with a 49-cent cake from Safeway. In addition to raising dough, the Gallegos also raised children. From the beginning they provided a home for Lucas’ brother and sister. Lucas and Earlene were then were blessed with six of their own children, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. They joined St. John Catholic Church in 1958. Much more of their beautiful life story was told by the Arlington Catholic Herald. God bless you.
