Sixty years ago the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (R.S.H.M.) sisters, commuting from their convent at Marymount College in Arlington, opened St. John School. This Saturday evening we will celebrate the great things God has done through what they began with our first pastor, Fr. Paul R. Cauwe, C.I.C.M. If you are an alum or a former school parent, please come and share your stories. If you just love St. John Parish with its great young servers and choristers, please come and share your gratitude.

Eight days ago our fellow parishioner Tomas Reyes make his lifetime vows of poverty, chastity and obedience in the Stabat Mater, a secular institute that was founded in Madrid, Spain, to form youth and young adults. You can see Tomas’ picture in the Stabat Mater portrait on page 17 of our parish photo directory. He is the man standing directly under Our Lady of Guadalupe. The younger man standing to his left is Mauricio Portillo, who entered the seminary for this Diocese last Fall. The other two men owe me money. If you see them tell me. Just kidding. Please pray that the number of men in Stabat Mater continues to grow and that they continue to bless us with vocations to the priesthood.

Since we should also become missionaries, I invite you to join in our second (hopefully annual) Mission Trip to Banica in the Dominican Republic, set to take place in four months: May 12-20. This year’s foray into the far reaches of this Diocese’ mission territory will be open to adults of at least 21 years of age. The approximate cost will be $1200. If you are interested and want to learn more please join me and Kevin Corcoran for prayers, slideshows and conversation on Sunday, February 8.

4:00-4:30 p.m. Vespers in the Church
4:30-5:00 p..m. Meeting/Cocktails in the Parish Hall

We will have subsequent gatherings for Vespers and loquacious libations on March 1 and April 12.

God bless you!
